Music for a Winters Evening

On Friday, November the 23rd 2018 Ellesmere Sinfonia performed in our debut solo concert.  The concert took place in Ellesmere College Arts Centre and was a great success.

The concert was opened by members of the Sinfonias wind and brass sections, conducted by Ed Wadon performing Beethovens Zapfenstreich no. 2 in C.

This was then followed by solos performed by members of the Sinfonia, ‘Hypnosis – Clarke’ performed by Sophie Ward on flute, and ‘Entr’acte’ from Carmen – Bizet performed by Amber Coxhill.  Both soloists were accompanied by Scott Phillips on piano.

The full Sinfonia then came together to complete the first half of the with a performance of Beethovens ‘Coriolan’ overture conducted by Scott Phillips.

Following the interval the Ellesmere College String Ensemble performed the ‘Flower Duet’ – Delibes, and ‘The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba’ – Handel, before taking their places amongst the Sinfonia for the finale of the evening, a performance of the ‘Unfinished’ Symphony No. 8 in B minor – Shubert, conducted by Ed Wadon.
